Video: League510 – “To The Beat”
Apr 23rd
The Video:
After releasing a slew of tracks off their compilation project, Invasion Vol. 1, and a successful Dope Winter Ball Tour, the Town Techno purveyors League510 are proud to release the title track and first single off their album, To The Beat. Playing off League510′s imaginative back-story, “To The Beat” depicts their exciting journey to planet Earth as TK, Mont, Mr. Knowitall, and DJ Blacksmith lead an alien invasion landing in the Bay Area.
Joining forces with their extraterrestrial sound waves and eccentric effects, “To The Beat” explodes with color, animation, and outlandish costumes, courtesy of Axiom Media Group and Tim Lillis. The video looks like a scene from a video game with League510′s laser guns and power meters ranging from “Normal” to “Town”. League510 explains, “With the help of a young Oakland native, we transformed ourselves to fit in, then realized the ills of this new planet and the mistake in adopting those new behaviors.” They continue, “Instead, we set out to right these wrongs with the help of our newfound friend. All is well until the villain, the embodiment of all ignorance and cause of Oakland’s turmoil, shows up and an epic battle ensues.” Rather than death rays, League510 shoots Town Techno rays, injecting their music into everyone around them. Spoken like the leaders they are, League510 proclaims, “We may be aliens and you may not understand us, but there is no need to fear us. Believe in the League!”
Look out for League510′s Earth invasion from Clear Label Records, To The Beat, in Spring 2010.

The Background:
Emcees TK, Mont, Mr. Knowitall and DJ Blacksmith better known as League510 are pioneers of a sound that is all their own, Town Techno. With a sound that is out of this world, League510′s musical journey began in a galaxy far away from ours. After traveling the universe for years, they entered our galaxy and our planet shortly thereafter. With sights on our world, the quartet chose to land in the hills east of Oakland, CA. After hiding their ship deep in the hills they approached this new town with great curiosity and were immediately amazed by the vibrant culture that they found. Adopting the Bay Area scene as their new home, League510 wasted no time in beginning their new musical journey here in our world. Using advanced abilities, the four emcees quickly mastered the art of sound and gave birth to Town Techo, a form of music that would unite the people in heightened awareness; to show them to take action, to appreciate the fun in life, to believe in themselves and to believe in The League.

MP3: D.Black – Ali’Yah Instrumental Album
Apr 23rd
Critical Praise for D.Black:
“Like any artist with a passion, Black embraces that passion and puts it on full display. For that reason alone, this record is worth hearing at least once. What will bring you back for more listens, though, will be the beats, which are worth drooling over.” – PopMatters.com
“Whether it be the strength in his vocals itself or the power behind the metaphorically constructed lyrics, D. Black harmonizes with the beat, rather than against it bringing his vivacity full-circle.” – KevinNottingham.com
“Where other rappers have attempted and failed with these types of records, D.Black succeeds because of his sincere delivery.” – HipHopDX.com
Ali’Yah featured as one of Amazon’s Outstanding 2009 Albums You Might Have Missed.
The Songs:
Seattle, Washington-based emcee D.Black made waves late last year with the release of his highly celebrated sophomore album, Ali-Yah, on Sportn’ Life Records/MYX Music Label. Showcasing his development as an artist since his emergence onto the hip-hop scene, Ali-Yah features 14 soulful, yet heavy-hitting, tracks chockfull of insightful lyricism, smooth delivery, and bangin’ production, which was supplied by powerhouses Jake One and Vitamin D. “Yesterday” and “The Return” are just two of the many standout tracks that ended up on countless mixtapes and catapulted Ali’Yah onto many year-end lists.
With all the critical acclaim that the album has received, it seemed only natural to release an instrumental version for public consumption, which D.Black is proud to do. A lifelong advocate of music and its unmistakable power, D.Black hopes aspiring emcees will take these expertly arranged beats as a foundation for their own inspired verses.

The Background:
Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, D.Black’s musical roots are deep, with his mother and father both involved in pioneering hip-hop groups in the Seattle music scene. In 2006, D.Black released his debut album, The Cause & Effect, a huge regional success, allowing the emcee to share the stage with Nas, Freeway, Bun B, Clipse, Paul Wall, The Boot Camp Click, and more. After being mentored by Vitamin D, a staple and veteran of the Seattle hip-hop scene, D.Black began making a name for himself by working on projects with producer Jake One. One such collaboration resulted in D.Black being featured on Jake One’s White Van Music, on the track “God Like,” helping to cement the Seattle emcee as a household name beyond the Pacific Northwest. Jake One and Vitamin D were also both instrumental in helping D.Black create his new album, offering guidance and production on the record. D.Black’s new album, Ali’Yah, is now available everywhere via Sportn’ Life Records/MYX Music Label.

MP3: League510 – “To The Beat”
Apr 9th
The Song:
With winter out of the way, League510, consisting of emcees TK, Mr. Knowitall, Monty, and DJ Blacksmith, are excited to drop their latest single, “To The Beat,” to get people ready for a good time this summer. Emphasizing the group’s original Town Techno sound, “To The Beat” is the perfect soundtrack to your next party. The energetic synthesizer is contagiously satisfying; you’ll find yourself unable to forget the beat, while the song’s hook, “We’re movin’ and groovin’ to the beat,” sung by the group’s close friend and fellow artist, Mara Decoudrex, matches the beat’s catchiness perfectly. “After we wrote it, we immediately thought of her,” says League510. “She had the perfect voice for it.” When asked what the biggest challenge was making the song, they answer, “Writing it. The beat is crazy and prior to making this track we’d never rapped to anything like it.” Recording the track wasn’t all challenges, though. The four Bay Area natives had plenty of good times recording the dance anthem: “The most enjoyable part was when Mara was recording the hook in her ‘valley girl‘ voice. We laughed the entire time.”
The title track to their album, To The Beat, the song genuinely represents how the group feels as newly emerging artists to the scene, while capturing the unique concept that League follows throughout the course of their debut album. Explaining the relationship League510 says, “This song is the title track because it signifies League510′s landing on earth and attempting to adapt and learn how to move ‘to the beat’ of a new world while still marching ‘to the beat’ of our own drum.” Looks like the ultimate summer anthem has arrived a little early.
Be on the lookout for the official video for League510′s “To The Beat” in the coming weeks.

MP3: Jern Eye – “Get Down Remix” Feat. The Pharcyde, Prod. Keelay & Zaire
Feb 23rd
The Song:
Following the success of Jern Eye’s lead single, “Get Down,” as well as the song’s energetic video, the Bay Area emcee is proud to release the official remix for the club-oriented single. The “Get Down Remix,” featuring fellow California natives and hip-hop legends, The Pharcyde, offers a fresh breath to a song already considered a fan favorite by many. While the basic elements of a James Brown sample and a raw, acoustic drumbeat, courtesy of fellow MYX Music Label producer duo Keelay & Zaire, remain untouched, the addition of such a talented and well-known group pushes the track to a new level, highlighting The Pharcyde’s effortless energy and flair alongside a brand new verse from Jern full of confident braggadocio. “A little sick, so the talk’s slick,” begins Jern, chiming in later, “No antics, the rep’s so massive/ I ain’t no joke, no game, no slapstick.” Working with The Pharcyde was a pleasure for Jern, whose own style is continuously inspired by the west coast legends’ fluidity and power. “The Pharcyde has always been one of my favorite hip-hop groups,” says Jern. “The energy and fun they put into their music has inspired a lot of what I do in my own music, so it was only natural to get them on board to do a remix for ‘Get Down’. I felt like the song was perfect for them, and would really bring out that animated energy they’re known for.”
Jern Eye’s sophomore album, Vision, is now available via MYX Music Label.

The Background:
Los Angeles native Jern Eye began crafting his skills early on at freestyle battles in famous L.A. clubs. Jern formed the staple west coast group, Lunar Heights, with friend and fellow emcee Spear Of The Nation shortly after high school, and the group eventually migrated north to Oakland to join the Bay Area’s flourishing independent hip-hop scene. Once in the Bay, the group was joined by Khai Sharrieff as they began making a name for themselves opening for a number of well known groups, including Crown City Rockers, The Pharcyde, The Procussions, and more. The group subsequently released their solo effort, Crescent Moon, to high acclaim. Jern followed three years later with his solo debut, Authentic Vintage, in 2006, and toured with Hieroglyphics and Living Legends as a result of the album’s success. Jern Eye’s sophomore album, Vision, features production from !llmind, Jake One, Keelay & Zaire, DJ Vinroc, Def Supreme, Phil Jahns, and Artek, and collaborations with artists Cali Agents, Mistah F.A.B., Zion I, Guilty Simpson, Nightclubber Lang, and more looks to make the case for Jern’s upward movement as a legitimate hip-hop talent on a national level. Vision is available now via MYX Music Label.

MP3: League510 – “In My Face (Womp Womp)”
Feb 20th
The MP3:
Fresh off the Dope Winter Ball Tour alongside Tash of The Alkoholiks, League510 is back with their latest leak, the fun and catchy “In My Face (Womp Womp).” Hailing from the Bay Area, the group is quickly making a name for themselves as the leaders of the burgeoning Town Techno movement. Off their upcoming compilation project, Invasion Vol. 1, “In My Face (Womp Womp)” puts that sound on display, showing off the lighter side of the rising Bay Area foursome.
Taking a comedic turn, the track tells the story of a clingy girl who only hangs around League510 for the limelight. “The song is about drunk, loud-mouthed, annoying, chicken-head, jocking, gold-digging, groupie type chicks getting all in your face because they recognize you while you’re out minding your own business,” the group explains. “Its really more of a spoof. A joke in good spirit to diss those types of girls.” The Charlie Brown-inspired “Womp Womps” and the call-and-response female voice keep the song light even as the group throws some pretty harsh zingers at the groupies of the world, and the track’s pounding distorted drumbeat and deep synth – a staple of the Town Techno sound – will undoubtedly keep feet moving as the foursome of TK, Mont, Mr. Knowitall, and DJ Blacksmith give their take on the sort of hanger-on we could all do without.
League510 will be releasing Invasion Vol. 1 in the coming months, while the group’s Clear Label Records debut, To The Beat, will be released Spring 2010.
