Bay Area’s Next In Line, DaVinci Brings A Poignant Message About Government And Community To Listeners

Bay Area's Next In Line, DaVinci Brings A Poignant Message About Government And Community To Listeners
| The Song:
As DaVinci continues to build momentum for the March 9th release of his full-length album, The Day The Turf Stood Still, he is unleashing the second in a series of three pre-album tracks. This second offering, “Trickle Down,” is again produced by Blunt, and again displays DaVinci’s poignant, yet street-corner informed, take on the Bay Area blocks that raised him and the world at large that surrounds him. As the song begins with relaxing jazz sounds, the realization soon hits that the song isn’t about relaxation at all. As DaVinci’s voice cuts through the music, the heady subject matter emerges as he raps about his neighborhood where survival is about gang wars, hate, and animosity. Taking it a step further, he compares the inne rworkings of street life to the machinations of modern day governments. As DaVinci raps, “Hate is power, love is a weakness / You do wrong the right way, they call you a genius,” the rising Bay Area emcee’s powerful message resonates loud and clear – what’s valued in the streets seems to be exactly what is valued in politics too. This is the trickle down effect that grips the government and the community. “No government is perfect,” says DaVinci. “But if you represent a nation built on lies, cheating, thieves, murder, slavery, and the like, it’s going to be difficult for the people who make up that nation to see this as wrong.” Further proving the Bay Area emcee’s penchant for releasing quality content, joining “Trickle Down” is a video montage, commanded by DaVinci’s own firm narrative. “Take a ride with me,” begins DaVinci over the sounds of a beating heart. Coming together with the driving strength of DaVinci’s words is a number of different black and white images, each signaling its own significance to the Fillmore native’s experiences, thoughts, and themes found throughout his music. “Trickle Down” prod. The Background: The Fillmore District has bred more rappers per capita than any other district in San Francisco, and although the older generations recall its rich musical history rooted in Jazz, the Fillmore today is rife with drugs, turf wars, and mass gentrification. DaVinci, a young MC raised in the Fillmore, is a prime example of the duality of this area, who at the age of 13 was homeless, hungry, and hopeful for a way out. Explains DaVinci, “My music has everything to do with my environment: from robbing, killing, pimpin’ to selling and abusing drugs,” he explains about his heavy content. “It’s a direct reflection of what my friends and family have been through and are still going through.” While his story is similar to many other young rappers’ upbringings, DaVinci was surrounded by an incredible pool of Fillmore talent and by studying with the greats, he was able to sharpen his skills and aim higher than most, cultivating his story-telling abilities beyond mere drug-and-gun-talk. Growing up in the same 10-block radius as Bay Area rap legends San Quinn and JT the Bigga Figga, DaVinci was content in merely watching the next generation follow in their footsteps, until he received overwhelming praise from his peers from a mixtape appearance, which then prompted him to pursue rap professionally. In 2006, San Quinn welcomed him onto the “Pressure Makes Diamonds Tour” with rap veterans Xzibit and Tech N9ne. Since the tour, DaVinci has kept busy appearing on numerous mixtapes and compilations, as well as preparing his official debut album, The Day The Turf Stood Still. The Day The Turf Stood Still will be available March 9, 2010 via SWTBRDS Creative Collective. |

Battery/Jive Hit-Maker D.C. Don Juan Prepares “Lookie Looky” For Radio, Digital Retailers
| The Song:
Battery/Jive recording artist D.C. Don Juan has wasted no time getting his career in full swing. Shortly after signing his major label deal, the D.C.-raised rapper who has previously honed his skills under the driving motivation of NBA stars DerMarr Johnson, Allen Iverson, and Carmelo Anthony, released the video for his exciting new single, “Lookie Looky,” receiving both commercial and critical acclaim. Proud of the video’s early success, D.C. Don Juan and Battery Records are proud to announce the release of the single to radio as well as the release of the mp3 and video to all digital retailers, including industry leader iTunes. Built around a descending, staccato synthesizer line, the infectious “Lookie Looky” quickly kicks into high gear as strings, bending synthesizers, and bouncy, bass-heavy drums back up the rapper’s infectious, sing-along chorus and winding verses. Not to be outshined by the song’s catchy beat, the video pits D.C. Don Juan as the clear star of the show, as the up-beat, club-ready song receives the perfect visual treatment – D.C. Don Juan intermingles with attractive women, rolling cars, and fun, visually tantalizing special effects. Scanning from scene to scene, the video’s innovative, sidewalk-chalk-inspired look offers a popping, light-hearted cartoon emphasis to illustrate the song’s phrases and imagery, including, of course, the song’s ever-contagious catch phrase, “Lookie Looky.” As D.C. Don Juan’s star continues to rise, we’re pretty sure having people look at him will be the least of his concerns. “Lookie Looky” Official video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIb7Qz-rGTU Please post buy links if you can!: For more information on D.C. Don Juan or Battery Records please contact Michelle or Dan at Audible Treats. The Background: D.C. Don Juan, born Maurice Campbell Jr., overcame many challenges early in life that forced him to look past the negative and focus on fresh, upbeat, and club-ready music and lyrics. After moving from the Bronx, NY to Washington, D.C., D.C. Don Juan’s passion for music brought him to Atlanta where he flourished. With the help of Dermarr Johnson, long time friend and member of the Denver Nuggets, D.C. Don Juan began his professional career. Recording an astonishing 4,000 songs up to this point in his career, the artist is currently signed to Battery Records, an imprint under Sony Music Entertainment’s RCA/JIVE Label Group, and promoting his new single and video, “Lookie Looky”. The song has made huge waves in D.C. Don Juan’s hometown of Washington, D.C. and is increasing in popularity across the nation. |

Media Darlings Of 2009, Tanya Morgan Announce New Developments For The Coming Year
Appreciative Of Year-End Accolades, Brooklynati’s Finest Announce Forthcoming Solo Projects, Touring Plans
Critical Praise for Tanya Morgan:
“This Brooklyn-Cincinnati hip-hop trio summoned old-school cheer, goofy skits and indelible hooks for a left-field masterpiece.” - Rated #1 Album across all genres for 2009 by Steve Smith, Time Out New York‘s Music Editor
“While it’s clear that for the trio — all men, none named Tanya or Morgan — the late-’80s Native Tongues groups (particularly De La Soul) is the alpha and omega of hip-hop, Brooklynati captures it exactly right here, with breezy, jazzy tracks that have the sense of discovery that accompanied De La, A Tribe Called Quest, and the Jungle Brothers at their most freewheeling.” - eMusic.com
(January 06, 2010 – Brooklyn, NY) Following overwhelming acclaim throughout the past year for their sophomore effort, Brooklynati, hip-hop trio Tanya Morgan are on a high – both grateful of past acclaim and excited and prepared for future endeavors, including forthcoming solo albums, group projects, and touring.
Tanya Morgan’s Brooklynati album has proven to have legs. Upon its release in May, the album quickly began feeding the appetites of music fans and journalists alike, debuting in the top 10 on iTune’s hip-hop charts as well as receiving rave reviews from the likes of SPIN Magazine, The Onion, Time Out New York, and more. Proving more than just another flash-in-the-pan album, Brooklynati once again found itself on the tip of tongues of journalists and bloggers, over eight months later, this time in the form of Year-End Best Of lists. Receiving end-of-year nods from the likes of AllMusic.com, The Village Voice, eMusic.com, Amazon.com, Onion AV Club, Time Out New York, The PopMatters.com, LAMusicBlog.com, TheSmokingSection, CokeMachineGlow.com, TheUrbanDaily.com, and more, Brooklynati continues to turn heads in 2010.
Rather than become complacent on past achievements, Tanya Morgan is keeping their six feet planted firmly in the future as 2010 dawns. In addition to jumping into the initial stages of their third group album, currently scheduled for a first quarter 2011 release, on March 23rd, Donwill will release his solo debut, Don Cusak In High Fidelity, which is thematically based on the cult-favorite film and novel High Fidelity, while both Von Pea and Ilyas will be planning their own solo efforts. Von Pea’s Pea’s Gotta Have It is currently slated for a late summer release while Ilyas’ Hello, Hell will follow in the fall.
Despite being three separate projects, Tanya Morgan views the solo albums as a trinity of sorts, being released as three different suites representing the whole of the group’s individual identities. Speaking on his third of the triumvirate release, Von says, “Pea’s Gotta Have It is the album I daydreamed about making one day back when I was in high school so it’s told from the perspective of a high school student. It starts on the first day of senior year and it ends right before graduation.”
Although the focus this year will be on solo efforts, the trio will team up plenty of times in 2010. In addition to each member popping up on each other’s solo efforts, fans can also look forward to catching the trio on the road, as Tanya Morgan will be performing a number of shows throughout the year, in addition to making another appearance at the annual SXSW music festival in March.

Tanya Morgan is back with their third project, Brooklynati, following the success of Moonlighting and The Bridge. Battery Records Signs Rapper D.C. Don Juan / Video Premiere
(Brooklyn, NY- December 21, 2009) Battery Records has signed Washington, DC based rapper, D.C. Don Juan. The label is set to launch his first single, “Lookie Looky,” and is now proud to release the official video for the song.
Neil Levine, GM and Senior Vice President of Battery Records, states, “D.C. Don Juan is a rare and distinct talent who appeals to a broad audience. His first single ‘Lookie Looky’ has an incredibly innovative video with an extremely strong hook. We are eager to develop his considerable potential and to make him a full-fledged star.”
D.C. Don Juan states, “I’ve worked hard to get this point and I’ve proven myself. I plan to raise the bar. The possibilities are endless with Nu Entertainment and Battery behind me.”
The 23 year-old Bronx-born rapper Maurice Campbell moved with his family to Washington, DC. when he was 12. A prolific artist who has recorded over 4,000 songs during the course of his eight-year career, he channels the harshness of urban street life into hip-hop developing his persona as D.C. Don Juan.
His vantage point was broadened with time spent in different regions of the country. In 2004, he moved to Denver where he was squarely on the Denver Nuggets team radar, playing in the Allen Iverson celebrity game and recording in Dermarr Johnson’s studio. He moved onto Atlanta in 2006 to collaborate with Polow Da Don and Boo, and it was there that he caught the eye of Nu Entertainment CEO Reggie “Big Reg” Turner, who promptly signed him, leading to his recent signing with Battery Records.
Battery Records is an imprint under Sony Music Entertainment’s RCA/JIVE Label Group umbrella formed in July 2008 to develop and nurture young urban hip hop talent, in an age where such development is more crucial and necessary than ever. Under the leadership of industry veteran Neil Levine, Battery’s mission is to uncover and cultivate organic young talent, thereby creating an indispensable niche in the marketplace.
For more information on D.C. Don Juan or Battery Records please contact Michelle or Dan at Audible Treats.
