MP3 & Video: DaVinci – “Trickle Down” Prod. By Blunt
Bay Area’s Next In Line, DaVinci Brings A Poignant Message About Government And Community To Listeners

Bay Area's Next In Line, DaVinci Brings A Poignant Message About Government And Community To Listeners
| The Song:
As DaVinci continues to build momentum for the March 9th release of his full-length album, The Day The Turf Stood Still, he is unleashing the second in a series of three pre-album tracks. This second offering, “Trickle Down,” is again produced by Blunt, and again displays DaVinci’s poignant, yet street-corner informed, take on the Bay Area blocks that raised him and the world at large that surrounds him. As the song begins with relaxing jazz sounds, the realization soon hits that the song isn’t about relaxation at all. As DaVinci’s voice cuts through the music, the heady subject matter emerges as he raps about his neighborhood where survival is about gang wars, hate, and animosity. Taking it a step further, he compares the inne rworkings of street life to the machinations of modern day governments. As DaVinci raps, “Hate is power, love is a weakness / You do wrong the right way, they call you a genius,” the rising Bay Area emcee’s powerful message resonates loud and clear – what’s valued in the streets seems to be exactly what is valued in politics too. This is the trickle down effect that grips the government and the community. “No government is perfect,” says DaVinci. “But if you represent a nation built on lies, cheating, thieves, murder, slavery, and the like, it’s going to be difficult for the people who make up that nation to see this as wrong.” Further proving the Bay Area emcee’s penchant for releasing quality content, joining “Trickle Down” is a video montage, commanded by DaVinci’s own firm narrative. “Take a ride with me,” begins DaVinci over the sounds of a beating heart. Coming together with the driving strength of DaVinci’s words is a number of different black and white images, each signaling its own significance to the Fillmore native’s experiences, thoughts, and themes found throughout his music. “Trickle Down” prod. Blunt: http://media.audibletreats.com/DaVinci-Trickle_Down_Prod_By_Blunt.mp3 For more information on DaVinci please contact Michelle or Dan at Audible Treats. The Background: The Fillmore District has bred more rappers per capita than any other district in San Francisco, and although the older generations recall its rich musical history rooted in Jazz, the Fillmore today is rife with drugs, turf wars, and mass gentrification. DaVinci, a young MC raised in the Fillmore, is a prime example of the duality of this area, who at the age of 13 was homeless, hungry, and hopeful for a way out. Explains DaVinci, “My music has everything to do with my environment: from robbing, killing, pimpin’ to selling and abusing drugs,” he explains about his heavy content. “It’s a direct reflection of what my friends and family have been through and are still going through.” While his story is similar to many other young rappers’ upbringings, DaVinci was surrounded by an incredible pool of Fillmore talent and by studying with the greats, he was able to sharpen his skills and aim higher than most, cultivating his story-telling abilities beyond mere drug-and-gun-talk. Growing up in the same 10-block radius as Bay Area rap legends San Quinn and JT the Bigga Figga, DaVinci was content in merely watching the next generation follow in their footsteps, until he received overwhelming praise from his peers from a mixtape appearance, which then prompted him to pursue rap professionally. In 2006, San Quinn welcomed him onto the “Pressure Makes Diamonds Tour” with rap veterans Xzibit and Tech N9ne. Since the tour, DaVinci has kept busy appearing on numerous mixtapes and compilations, as well as preparing his official debut album, The Day The Turf Stood Still. The Day The Turf Stood Still will be available March 9, 2010 via SWTBRDS Creative Collective. |

MP3: Bisco Smith – “Vibrations” (Scott Thorough Remix)
Teaming With Nuclear Family Producer Scott Thorough, Bisco Delivers Genre Bending Remix For The Broadcast’s Newest Single

Teaming With Nuclear Family Producer Scott Thorough, Bisco Delivers Genre Bending Remix For The Broadcast's Newest Single
The Song:
After Bisco Smith’s newest album, The Broadcast, arrived with a bang, he has taken his single, “Vibrations” to the next level with its revamped remix. Producer Scott Thorough was brought in for this remix to provide a different angle for the edgy single. A Brooklyn native, Thorough is a member of the Nuclear Family and has produced remixes for Embedded Music and Def Jux artists Baje One, Cool Calm Pete, Core Rhythm, and more, along with his frequent collaborations with Bisco. “Scott has remixed a bunch of tunes for me in the past and always comes with the dark, heavy, hard-hitting material,” says Bisco. “I am a fan of dubstep, drum and bass, and heavy electronic tunes and I think Scott always incorporates those elements in what he sends my way.”
The echoed beginning of “We gonna get you out of here,” followed by a moment of dead air, erases all pretense for the remix, opening up the listener to the new possibilities of Scott Thorough’s imaginings. Warped sounds, pounding drums, and a descending synthesizer bass line continuously push the music forward, but in a different way than the original single – its eerie setup, and the feel it provides Bisco’s lyrics, fill the remix with a seemingly slowed, yet driving power. Coming to an end, the remix takes yet another turn, as Bisco directs the drum kick, bass line, and snare hit with his intense, syncopated lyrics. Then, coming full circle, the remix closes the same way it began – an echoing “We gonna get you out of here” permeates the speakers, reinforcing the song’s theme of musical escape as Bisco’s fading vocals wander off, pulling the listener’s thoughts with them. The most musically diverse effort of Bisco’s career, The Broadcast pushes the boundaries of what hip-hop can be, and with the album’s remixes, and the efforts of Scott Thorough, “Vibrations” continues to challenge the hip-hop status quo. Bisco Smith’s The Broadcast is currently available via all digital retailers.

THE BACKGROUND:
Bisco Smith moved to NYC 10 plus years ago from Connecticut and quickly made a name for himself DJ‘ing at clubs, distributing mixtapes, performing at open mics, and in graffiti circles. His debut release, The Basics EP (2006), gained the favorable attention of music critics and his subsequent release, The Stay Up Project mixtape (2007) was downloaded over 5,000 times. Bisco’s penchant for capturing our chaotic reality with his narratives, images, and collaborations has earned him a reputation as one of the most honest and creative artists of today. Going beyond music, Bisco Smith is also an accomplished graphic artist. He’s done cover art, designed promotional materials and spearheaded art direction for artists such as Aesop Rock, The Perceptionists, C-Rayz-Walz, Murs, El-P, and others. His art has been featured in several magazines and art house coffee table books and in galleries, such as Danny Simmon’s Rush Arts Gallery. 2008 was a big year for Bisco. He released the critically acclaimed album When Electric Night Falls (Embedded Music), toured the US, and performed at CMJ, SXSW, Scribble Jam, and NXNE. Since the start of 2009, Bisco has already released a multimedia project entitled The Strange Love Project, and is now preparing for the release of The Broadcast. It is clear that he shows no sign of slowing down. He spends his time designing everything from record covers to websites, painting walls, participating in art gallery shows, and mentoring the city’s youth with art and music, all the while transmitting top quality music to the world. Prepare to tune into Bisco Smith’s forthcoming LP, The Broadcast, available online now.

Battery/Jive Hit-Maker D.C. Don Juan Prepares “Lookie Looky” For Radio, Digital Retailers
| The Song:
Battery/Jive recording artist D.C. Don Juan has wasted no time getting his career in full swing. Shortly after signing his major label deal, the D.C.-raised rapper who has previously honed his skills under the driving motivation of NBA stars DerMarr Johnson, Allen Iverson, and Carmelo Anthony, released the video for his exciting new single, “Lookie Looky,” receiving both commercial and critical acclaim. Proud of the video’s early success, D.C. Don Juan and Battery Records are proud to announce the release of the single to radio as well as the release of the mp3 and video to all digital retailers, including industry leader iTunes. Built around a descending, staccato synthesizer line, the infectious “Lookie Looky” quickly kicks into high gear as strings, bending synthesizers, and bouncy, bass-heavy drums back up the rapper’s infectious, sing-along chorus and winding verses. Not to be outshined by the song’s catchy beat, the video pits D.C. Don Juan as the clear star of the show, as the up-beat, club-ready song receives the perfect visual treatment – D.C. Don Juan intermingles with attractive women, rolling cars, and fun, visually tantalizing special effects. Scanning from scene to scene, the video’s innovative, sidewalk-chalk-inspired look offers a popping, light-hearted cartoon emphasis to illustrate the song’s phrases and imagery, including, of course, the song’s ever-contagious catch phrase, “Lookie Looky.” As D.C. Don Juan’s star continues to rise, we’re pretty sure having people look at him will be the least of his concerns. “Lookie Looky” Official video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIb7Qz-rGTU Please post buy links if you can!: For more information on D.C. Don Juan or Battery Records please contact Michelle or Dan at Audible Treats. The Background: D.C. Don Juan, born Maurice Campbell Jr., overcame many challenges early in life that forced him to look past the negative and focus on fresh, upbeat, and club-ready music and lyrics. After moving from the Bronx, NY to Washington, D.C., D.C. Don Juan’s passion for music brought him to Atlanta where he flourished. With the help of Dermarr Johnson, long time friend and member of the Denver Nuggets, D.C. Don Juan began his professional career. Recording an astonishing 4,000 songs up to this point in his career, the artist is currently signed to Battery Records, an imprint under Sony Music Entertainment’s RCA/JIVE Label Group, and promoting his new single and video, “Lookie Looky”. The song has made huge waves in D.C. Don Juan’s hometown of Washington, D.C. and is increasing in popularity across the nation. |

Renowned Hiero Imperium Records Ready To Extend Legacy In 2010
Critical Praise for Montezuma’s Revenge:
“…this has the makings of a brand new classic set to shake things up all over again. 9/10″ – RapReviews.com
“…Souls Of Mischief’s Montezuma’s Revenge is a solid testament to their staying power, and also should be used as a blueprint for up-and-coming groups that strive for longevity—because learning from a collective that’s been doing it since “93″ isn’t a bad studying block to start from.” – ihiphop.com
(January 22, 2010 – Brooklyn, NY) 2009 may not yet be a distant memory, but Hiero Imperium Records is already looking to the future with their energetic plans for the new year. The Oakland based label is poised to be at the forefront of underground hip-hop in 2010 with releases from Tajai, Chosen Few, Opio, Pep Love, Casual, and more.
Hiero Imperium Records triumphed in 2009 with the celebrated album, Montezuma’s Revenge from West Coast legends, Souls of Mischief. The album, lauded by both fans and critics alike, not only cemented Souls of Mischief’s stature in the hip-hop community but also sparked off a string of successful global tour dates. Fans were also enthusiastic to show their love for the Soul’s legacy, as a ‘93 Til Infinity‘ inspired tee shirt made in conjunction with streetwear staple Adapt sold out within 24 hours of its release. Eager to build upon its hip-hop hot streak, Hiero is now gearing up for an equally successful 2010 with an extensive slate of offerings from its famed roster.
The new year kicks off with music from trio Chosen Few, who will dropping the Opio laced single “Elevation” on February 9th, followed by the release of their debut album New World Symphony on April 6th. Fans will be excited to learn that the Opio extravaganza continues with the summer release of his highly anticipated album, Vulture’s Wisdom Volume 2, sure to extend the emcee’s linguistic legacy. Label-mate Pep Love plans on keeping busy in 2010 with a one-two sonic combo in form of pre-album project, The Rigamarole, and full-length album, Reconstruction, while Phesto Dee readies the release of his long-awaited Background Check for the masses.
Also on deck for Hiero is a new Casual project and a release from Tajai, who plans on dropping Rap Noir by years end. Not content to rest on their lyrical laurels, the label is also looking to unite its hip-hop superpowers and put out a Heiro-crew album, and, to top it all off, Tajai promises that more surprises are soon-to-come courtesy of the mighty Souls of Mischief. “2009 was a fantastic year, and we’re thankful for that,” explains Tajai. “There’s plenty more goodness to come in 2010 from the legendary Hiero Imperium Records.”

Diamond District’s Oddisee Releases Odd Winter Mixtape
Critical Praise for Diamond District:
“If Diamond District is any indication, DMV really does have what Oddisee refers to as ‘the hottest edition of what you’ve been missing.’” – HipHopDX.com
“On ‘Back To Basics,’ the MCs liken themselves to the ‘93 version of De La Soul. While it’s a bit too early to go that far, Diamond District comes close.” – PrefixMag.com
“In the Ruff (Mello Music Group) recalls hip-hop from yesteryear (and sometimes Slum Village at their best), but remains quite forward thinking nonetheless… Simultaneously thoughtful and rugged, intelligent and funky, Diamond District have created an excellent album that will hopefully fly way above the radar as 2010 approaches.” – LostAtSea.net
The Mixtape:
Oddisee is back with another exclusive for fans with the third installment in his season-themed series Odd Winter. The gifted emcee is energized at the prospect of showcasing his lyrical dexterity on the upcoming project. “This series has forced me to look at the season and time in a different way,” says Oddisee. “They’re like theme music.” Not slowing down after a year that saw the release of the critically acclaimed Diamond District album In The Ruff, Oddisee is also preparing to drop a new instrumental album, Traveling Man on independent hip-hop powerhouse Mello Music Group. Interdependent Media Announces 2010 Release Schedule
Bay Area Label To Release New Work From Donwill, TRUTHLiVE, Canibus, Von Pea, A-Plus, And More
| (January 15, 2010 – Brooklyn, NY) 2009 already seems like a distant memory, and with the new year comes the promise of new music. Looking to fulfill all your musical needs in 2010 is Interdependent Media, who are set to raise the bar with upcoming releases from newcomer and celebrated artists alike, including TRUTHLiVE, Canibus, Donwill, Von Pea, A-Plus, and others.
Interdependent Media (iM) is coming off a highly successful year, as projects by both Tanya Morgan and hip-hop rookie of year Finale found their way into dozens of high profile Best of 2009 lists. Not content to rest on their laurels, iM is ready to keep making moves and, according to Dominic Del Bene, General Manager and A&R at iM, is looking forward to breaking new artists and “staying ahead of the curve as the music business continues to evolve” in 2010. iM’s first musical move will come courtesy of Donwill, who will be channeling his inner John Cusack as he releases Don Cusack: In High Fidelity on March 23rd, an album inspired by its celebrated celluloid namesake. Following Donwill will be exciting newcomer, and founder of Interdependent Media, TRUTHLiVE, who brings his lyrical acrobatics to his debut album Patience, produced entirely by Jake One, out on April 20th. Early 2010 will also mark the triumphant return of veteran verse slayer, Canibus as iM readies the spring release of The C Of Tranquility. Bay Area native Moe Green continues the melodious movement with a summer release of his debut album, while Von Pea of Tanya Morgan fame looks to keep things fresh with his solo debut dropping in the fall. 2010 will also see releases from Hieroglyphics’ crew member A-Plus, who, in addition to unveiling his sophomore album this year, will also be collaborating with the perennially dope Del The Funky Homosapien on L.E.D.. The spirit of sonic teamwork continues, as iM plans to join forces with fellow Bay Area powerhouse-on-the-rise MYX Music Label to release a project by The Burnerz, an alliance made up of Zumbi of Zion I and producer The ARE, formerly of K-Otix. The year may yet be young, but with this extensive offering of releases, Interdependent Media promises to make 2010 a banner year in hip-hop. About Interdependent Media: Founded in 2006 in the Bay Area by Evan Phillips, Interdependent Media has built unique strengths in the development, production, and marketing of recorded music via new methods of marketing and promotion. Armed with a comprehensive understanding of both traditional and emerging methods of marketing, iM has successfully created multi-faceted methods of raising awareness and interest in their projects. Industry veterans Ian “ID” Davis and Dominic Del Bene head operations at iM and are credited with discovering and/or developing artists such as 9th Wonder, Little Brother, Tanya Morgan, Blackalicious, Del the Funky Homosapien, the Hieroglyphics and more. In 2010, iM will be releasing multi-media projects from artists A-Plus, Donwill, Von Pea, Moe Green, Canibus, TRUTHLiVE, and The Burnerz. Media Darlings Of 2009, Tanya Morgan Announce New Developments For The Coming Year
Appreciative Of Year-End Accolades, Brooklynati’s Finest Announce Forthcoming Solo Projects, Touring Plans
Critical Praise for Tanya Morgan:
“This Brooklyn-Cincinnati hip-hop trio summoned old-school cheer, goofy skits and indelible hooks for a left-field masterpiece.” - Rated #1 Album across all genres for 2009 by Steve Smith, Time Out New York‘s Music Editor
“While it’s clear that for the trio — all men, none named Tanya or Morgan — the late-’80s Native Tongues groups (particularly De La Soul) is the alpha and omega of hip-hop, Brooklynati captures it exactly right here, with breezy, jazzy tracks that have the sense of discovery that accompanied De La, A Tribe Called Quest, and the Jungle Brothers at their most freewheeling.” - eMusic.com
(January 06, 2010 – Brooklyn, NY) Following overwhelming acclaim throughout the past year for their sophomore effort, Brooklynati, hip-hop trio Tanya Morgan are on a high – both grateful of past acclaim and excited and prepared for future endeavors, including forthcoming solo albums, group projects, and touring.
Tanya Morgan’s Brooklynati album has proven to have legs. Upon its release in May, the album quickly began feeding the appetites of music fans and journalists alike, debuting in the top 10 on iTune’s hip-hop charts as well as receiving rave reviews from the likes of SPIN Magazine, The Onion, Time Out New York, and more. Proving more than just another flash-in-the-pan album, Brooklynati once again found itself on the tip of tongues of journalists and bloggers, over eight months later, this time in the form of Year-End Best Of lists. Receiving end-of-year nods from the likes of AllMusic.com, The Village Voice, eMusic.com, Amazon.com, Onion AV Club, Time Out New York, The PopMatters.com, LAMusicBlog.com, TheSmokingSection, CokeMachineGlow.com, TheUrbanDaily.com, and more, Brooklynati continues to turn heads in 2010.
Rather than become complacent on past achievements, Tanya Morgan is keeping their six feet planted firmly in the future as 2010 dawns. In addition to jumping into the initial stages of their third group album, currently scheduled for a first quarter 2011 release, on March 23rd, Donwill will release his solo debut, Don Cusak In High Fidelity, which is thematically based on the cult-favorite film and novel High Fidelity, while both Von Pea and Ilyas will be planning their own solo efforts. Von Pea’s Pea’s Gotta Have It is currently slated for a late summer release while Ilyas’ Hello, Hell will follow in the fall.
Despite being three separate projects, Tanya Morgan views the solo albums as a trinity of sorts, being released as three different suites representing the whole of the group’s individual identities. Speaking on his third of the triumvirate release, Von says, “Pea’s Gotta Have It is the album I daydreamed about making one day back when I was in high school so it’s told from the perspective of a high school student. It starts on the first day of senior year and it ends right before graduation.”
Although the focus this year will be on solo efforts, the trio will team up plenty of times in 2010. In addition to each member popping up on each other’s solo efforts, fans can also look forward to catching the trio on the road, as Tanya Morgan will be performing a number of shows throughout the year, in addition to making another appearance at the annual SXSW music festival in March.

The Background:
Tanya Morgan is back with their third project, Brooklynati, following the success of Moonlighting and The Bridge. Since Von Pea, Ilyas, and Donwill formed Tanya Morgan in 2003, they have received high praise from media elites such as Spin, The Source, XXL Magazine and a resounding seal of approval from the blogosphere. Considered by many to be our generation’s torchbearers for De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest, Tanya Morgan will once again put their skills on display with the unique hip-hop Americana sounds of their Brooklynati album this spring. Based on the fictitious city of Brooklynati, this release pushes the boundaries of a concept album by incorporating not only lyrical imagery but also cultivating a culture and mindset, which can be experienced through the City of Brooklynati Chamber of Commerce website: http://www.brooklynati.com/home.html. The sites, sounds, memories, and events of Brooklynati were unleashed via Bay-Area based record label Interdependent Media, the architects behind the funding and development of Brooklynati.
